Set up your tracking pixels

No code, no developer. Paste your ID once in Settings → Retargeting pixels and MelodyLane adds it to every smart link, respects cookie consent, and sends the right events for you.

1

Don't have a Meta Pixel yet? Create one

  1. Go to Meta Events Manager and sign in with the Facebook account that runs your ads.
  2. Click Connect data (the green + button) and choose Web.
  3. Name it after your music, e.g. "Your Artist Name Smart Links", then click Create.
  4. If Meta asks how to install it, close that step — MelodyLane installs it for you.
  5. Copy the 15–16 digit ID shown under the new dataset's name. That's your Pixel ID.
Open Meta Events Manager
2

Find your ID

  1. Open Meta Events Manager and choose Data sources (or Datasets & pixels).
  2. Click your pixel / dataset name.
  3. Copy the number shown under its name — that's your Pixel ID.

Looks like: 1234567890123456 (15–16 digits)

Open Meta Events Manager
3

Paste it into MelodyLane

  1. Open Dashboard → Settings (Your Handle) → Retargeting pixels.
  2. Paste each ID into its field. A green check means the format looks right.
  3. Click Save pixels. Every current and future smart link now uses them.
  4. Need a different pixel on one release? Override it in the Smart Link Builder, Step 3.

Collaborations: your Master Pixels cover every release automatically. Doing a split single or a feature with another artist? Add or swap their pixel just for that release in Step 3 of the Smart Link Builder.

What we send automatically

  • Page view — when a fan opens your smart link.
  • Click — when a fan taps a streaming service (Meta: ViewContent, TikTok: ClickButton).
  • Sign-up — when a fan joins your email list (CompleteRegistration).

Pixels only load for fans who choose "Accept all" on the cookie notice. Your own visits as the owner aren't counted.

Check it's working

  1. In Meta Events Manager, open your pixel and click the Test Events tab.
  2. Open your smart link in a new tab (turn your ad blocker off first — see below).
  3. Click Accept all on the cookie notice, tap a streaming button, and try the email sign-up.
  4. Within a few seconds, PageView, ViewContent and CompleteRegistration should appear.

Faster check: install the free Meta Pixel Helper or TikTok Pixel Helper Chrome extension. Open your smart link, click the extension icon, and it shows a green check with PageView, ViewContent and CompleteRegistration right in the tab — no need to switch to Events Manager.

TikTok and Google have similar test views: TikTok Events Manager → Test events, and Google Analytics → Admin → DebugView or Realtime.

Running ads to your smart link

When you create your ad in Meta Ads Manager, skip the Traffic objective (link clicks). It optimizes for people who tap ads by accident and leave before your music page even opens — the most common mistake indie artists make.

  1. Choose Leads, Sales or Engagement as your objective, with the conversion location set to Website.
  2. Pick your MelodyLane pixel as the data source.
  3. Set the conversion event to ViewContent (optimize for fans who actually tap Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) or CompleteRegistration (optimize for email signups).
  4. Start with a small daily budget and increase it gradually as results come in.
7

Turn visits into audiences

Once your pixel has collected a few hundred visits, put the data to work in Meta Ads Manager:

  • Retarget: create a Custom Audience of fans who triggered ViewContent in the last 90–180 days, then show them your next release, tour dates or merch.
  • Lookalikes: tell Meta to find thousands of new people who match the profile of fans who tapped your music.
  • Exclude buyers: when you retarget, exclude people who already tapped through so your budget reaches new fans.

Ad blockers stop pixels from firing

Ad blockers and privacy tools — uBlock Origin, AdBlock Plus, Ghostery, Brave Shields, Safari's tracking protection and some VPNs — block Meta, TikTok and Google scripts on purpose. If you test with one on, it will look like your pixel is broken even when it's set up correctly.

  • Pause your ad blocker for your smart link page while testing.
  • Or test in a private window with browser extensions turned off.
  • Or test on your phone in a regular browser with no blocker or VPN.

Some real fans use blockers too, so your ad results may show slightly fewer visits than your MelodyLane Insights. That's normal.
